Search Clouds For Higher Rankings By Dan Fletcher One of the best ways to get targeted traffic to yourwebsite is through the search engines. And how much trafficyou get will be based on how high you appear in the searchengine rankings. So it is important to spend some of yourmarketing time trying to improve your search enginerankings. There are many ways to do this, but the two mainways are changing the text on your website, and increasingthe links to your website. You also need to look at theactual links on your website- make sure you link to yourimportant pages, and use good anchor text (which is thetext that your link appears as, eg a link tobluewidgets.com might appear as "blue widgets", so "bluewidgets is the anchor text"). A great way to optimize yourinternal links is to use a "search cloud". So what is a search cloud? It's similar to a "tag cloud".It's basically a big list of phrases, with the individualphrases varying in size. Each phrase represents a searchterm that someone searched for, and then clicked on andvisited your site. And the size of the individual phrasesshows how many people searched for the individual terms- ifa lot of people search (and click) for a specific phrase, then that phrase will appear bigger than the other phrasesin the search cloud. One of the best benefits of a search cloud is that it givesyou more internal links to the pages that are important onyour site. And it uses the "right" anchor text, because ituses the anchor text that people are already searching for. This will help with search engine rankings, because it addsmore links to your pages, with the correct anchor text. These links may not be as useful as links from otherdomains- but they still help! Lets say that you get some traffic for the search phrase"blue widgets". If someone visits your site after searchingfor "blue widgets", then the search cloud will now show"blue widgets", with a link to the relevant page. Now youhave extra links to "blue widgets", you are more likely torank higher for that term. That's not the only reason to have a search cloud though!Another great benefit is that they encourage people toexplore your site. When people see a search cloud, theycan't help but glance through the list. Because of the widevariety of search terms, it is quite likely they will findsomething that interests them, and click the link. Thismeans you will have lower bounce rates, as well as higheraverage page views per visitor. This will correspond tomore page views- which will lead to more people buying yourproducts, or making more money from your advertising. You can usually add a search cloud quite easily to yourwebsite. If you're interested, I have a PHP based search cloud, called "Simple Search Cloud". It's easy to install, and won't cost you anything. You can download it from: http://www.buymyscripts.net/Free_Scripts.html Looking for a site with a wide variety of great PHP scripts? The visit Dan Fletcher's great scripting site...http://www.buymyscripts.net
